Job summary

City and County of Honolulu seeks an experienced Plans Examining Engineer V to review and approve complex building plans for code compliance in Honolulu. This full-time role requires evaluating drawings, specifications and calculations, and issuing permits once all requirements are satisfied.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least one year of professional civil or structural engineering experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (regionally accredited).
• 1 year of professional civil or structural engineering experience at/near Engineer IV level.
• Ability to apply structural and civil engineering principles to buildings.
• Strong ability to review plans and interpret Building Code provisions.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve complex building plans and calculations.
• Issue building permits once requirements are met.
• Consult with architects and engineers on structural safety.
• Evaluate geotechnical and structural test data for adequacy.
