Job summary

County of Hawai‘i is seeking a professional planner for the Long Range Division in Hilo. The role involves planning studies, zoning analysis, and coordinating with community groups and other departments to advance the General Plan.

An accredited bachelor's degree in planning or related field and four years of relevant experience are required. Applicants may be considered for permanent or temporary vacancies, with potential progression to permanent appointment.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree (scan and attach official transcript).
  • Four (4) years of work experience in community planning, environmental planning, architecture, engineering, socio-economic research, land development, or related community planning activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional planning work in surveys and studies for the General Plan, including streets, utilities, recreation and school facilities.
  • Supervise and participate in the preparation of maps, layouts for parking, utilities, streets, civic centers, school sites and recreation areas.
  • Conduct land use studies including zoning, area requirements, height and spacing standards.
  • Prepare plans and details, including cost estimates.
  • Analyze development plans and zoning proposals for residential, commercial, industrial and public uses.
  • Manage consultants and oversee project budgets and schedules.
  • Coordinate with other divisions and community groups and present information to stakeholders.
