Job summary

The Town of Hilton Head Island seeks a detail-oriented Plans Examiner to review commercial and residential construction plans for compliance with building codes, floodplain regulations, and municipal ordinances. Reporting to the Building Official, you will conduct plan reviews, perform site visits, provide guidance to architects and owners, and support floodplain management and CRS initiatives.

This role requires a high school diploma with five years’ experience or equivalent, plus ICC

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum five years of relevant experience.
• ICC Certification as specified or Certified Building Official.

Responsibilities

• Review construction plans for code compliance in structural, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
• Conduct site visits and provide technical guidance to architects, engineers, and property owners.
• Support floodplain management and Community Rating System (CRS) initiatives.
• Maintain accurate records and assist with public awareness efforts related to building codes.
• Respond to inquiries and resolve issues with professionalism and efficiency.
