Job summary

The City of Cape Coral is seeking a Plans Examiner to review residential, commercial and miscellaneous construction plans for the Department of Community Development. The role ensures compliance with building, fire and zoning codes and maintains required certifications.

Preferred candidates hold Florida Plans Examiner certifications or ICC equivalents, with 2+ years of inspections or plan review experience and ability to obtain Florida certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid Florida Plans Examiner license or eligible for reciprocity.
• Appropriate Plans Examiner certifications preferred (ICC or state).
• Experience in plans review and inspections a must.

Responsibilities

• Reviews residential, commercial, and miscellaneous construction plans for the Department of Community Development.
• Maintains necessary certifications and provides support for Building or Development Services.
• Ensures compliance with established building, fire and zoning codes and regulations.
• Interprets architectural drawings, maps, schematics, and site documentation.
• Reviews and approves/denies permits and records all approved permits.
• Other related duties.
