Job summary

Heart of America Chapter ICC is seeking a Plans Examiner to administer plans reviews for residential, commercial, and industrial construction, assist the Building Official, and ensure conformance with adopted city codes and engineering practices.

The role requires independent decision making, collaboration with the Building Official, inspectors, engineers, and planners, and ongoing updates to codes and inspection procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction science and technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Three to five years of experience in either construction codes administration or equivalent.
• Must have and maintain an ICC certification as a Building Plans Examiner or equivalent.
• Must have or be able to achieve ICC certifications as an Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Accessibility plans examiner within a timeframe determined by the Building Official after hire.
• Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Review, evaluate, and analyze plans for compliance with city codes and accepted engineering practices.
• Maintain complete and accurate files of plan reviews and permit applications.
• Inform contractors and public of non-conformities and complete follow-up inspections.
• Review permit applications for compliance with codes, including verification of contractor licenses prior to permit issuance.
• Oversee field inspections conducted by third-party engineers and inspectors and ensure code requirements are met.
