Job summary

The Community College of Allegheny County is looking for a Placement Testing Center Assistant to oversee testing operations and provide key administrative support. This position is temporary and part-time, consisting of a 25-hour workweek with the option for medical benefits at full employee cost.

Position Title: Placement Testing Center Assistant Temporary Pool

Department: Admissions

Campus: College Wide

Additional Information: If you are a PSERS retiree, per PSERS guidelines, employment as an adjunct faculty member will result in the suspension of your retirement benefits by PSERS. This is a temporary part-time 25 hours/week position with option for medical benefits at full employee cost.

Work hours for hourly positions: Consists of a 25-hour workweek Monday through Saturday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Work evenings and Saturdays will be required.

General Summary

The Placement Testing Center Assistant serves as the primary placement test proctor and oversees the testing center during posted hours of operation. This assistant performs all duties related to test administration and coordination of the testing center and provides administrative support for the enrollment services area as needed.

Education and/or Experience

• High School Diploma
• Minimum of two years previous student service or customer service experience
• Ability to work with students of all abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree from an accredited college or university
• At least one-year experience in a higher education or testing environment
• Prior experience working with a diverse population

Communication Skills

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Computer Skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet skills; knowledge of Accuplacer or other administrative software is a plus.

Other Skills and Abilities

Excellent communication, public speaking, interpersonal, and written communication skills; knowledge of the Community College and Higher Education system.

Duties

1. Perform day-to-day coordination of all placement testing center activities.
2. Assist with coordination of the placement-testing schedule with the Director of Placement Testing.
3. Communicate any changes to the testing schedule with the enrollment services staff.
4. Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of the test environment.
5. Act as the primary proctor at designated testing sites.
6. Maintain records, process scores, and produce reports as needed.
7. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Placement Testing.
8. Provide administrative support and coverage at the reception area when possible.
9. Support enrollment services by inputting data and student applications in the Ellucian Information System.
10. Provide excellent student and customer service by answering questions from visitors and callers.
11. Be responsible for understanding the new student enrollment process to direct student issues in a timely and professional manner.

Clearances

Current criminal record and child abuse clearances are required. The three clearances are Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Check.
