Job summary

Community College of Allegheny County is seeking tutors for its Temporary Pool to support students across the college wide campus. This is a temporary, part-time role with hours that vary by department needs and location.

Tutors work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce course concepts, improve study skills, and promote successful credit course outcomes. Prior tutoring or teaching experience and strong communication are preferred, with degrees from accredited institutions

Qualifications

• Associate's degree (bachelor's preferred); B average in subjects to be tutored.
• Teaching or tutoring experience preferred; good communication skills.
• Degrees must be from an accredited institution.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring in designated subject.
• Help students to acquire knowledge in academic disciplines, develop learning skills and improve students' achievement in credit courses.
• Identify or develop appropriate materials to supplement class instructional material.
• Promote tutoring services through class presentations and brochures/flyers.
• Ensure that students utilize Appointment Central and record notes as appropriate.
• Confer with faculty on assignment expectations.
• Refer students to appropriate support services such as counseling, advising, and Learning Commons.
• Develop workshops focusing on topics or learning difficulties.
• Use a wide array of tutoring methods to address learning challenges.
• Familiarize students with online support.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Clearances

Current criminal record/child abuse clearances will be required if offered the position and in order to be employed at the College. The three clearances are Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigations Criminal Background Check. The College has provided instructions on how to obtain these clearances.
