Job summary

Brown & Root Industrial Services in Texas seeks journeyman-level pipefitters to lay out, fabricate, install and maintain piping systems, supports and related equipment for steam, hot water and processing systems.

Daily tasks include selecting pipes, inspecting sites, planning sequences, cutting, threading, bending, mounting hangers, assembling joints, and testing for leaks. Training and safety are emphasized.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, 0-2 years' experience.
• Under direct supervision; independent judgment not typically required.
• Follow instructions and complete tasks in a timely, safe and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

• Select pipe type and size per job specs.
• Inspect site for obstructions.
• Plan installation sequence to avoid obstructions and other workers' activities.
• Cut pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch or pipe cutting machine.
• Thread pipes using threading machine.
• Bend pipes by hand or with pipe-bending tools and machine.
• Mount pipe hangers and brackets on walls/ceiling.
• Assemble and install pipes and pipe fittings with joints (caulked, soldered, brazed, fused or cemented).
• Secure pipes to structures with brackets, clamps, and hangers.
• Install and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems and controls.
• Test piping systems for leaks by pressure observation.
• Weld pipe supports to structural steel.
• Observe machinery and operate as needed for repairs.
• Load and transport materials and tools.
• Assist in lifting and positioning pieces.
• Perform routine tool cleaning and maintenance.
