Position Overview

This role involves joining metal parts such as pipes or metal plates according to layout, blueprints, work orders, welding procedures, or oral instructions using heat or electric arc-welding equipment. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

1. Use spot welding guns or hand tools, electric, or gas welding equipment to weld or tack weld components.
2. Unite pipes from torch to tanks of oxygen and fuel gas, adjusting valves to control the mixture.
3. Burn torch to reach the required temperature, size, and color of the flame.
4. Preheat workpieces for welding or shaping using a torch.
5. Fill holes or correct mistakes in lead pieces, and shape metal workpieces by making bulges thin or curves.
6. Check the integrity of workpieces and measure to ensure they meet specifications.
7. Climb ladders or scaffolds to access work areas.
8. Signal crane operators to lift large workpieces.
9. Use thermal-cutting equipment such as flame-cutting torches or plasma-arc tools to dismount or cut scrap metal.
10. Utilize hoists, cranes, wire and banding machines, or hand tools to position and secure workpieces.
11. Select appropriate welding locations based on metal type, thickness, and temperature considerations.
12. Instruct and operate flame or electrodes to straighten, curve, dissolve, or develop metal.
13. Join pieces, cover taut points, and add metal to form components.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience: 3-5 years of Journeyman-level experience.
