Job summary

TridentCare is seeking a PICC Line Nurse to assess patients, perform PICC placements, and ensure proper line insertion with aseptic technique. The role requires independent work, strong communication with patients and staff, and thorough documentation of PICC procedures.

The position includes patient education on PICC care, participation in performance improvement activities, and maintaining competency with a minimum PICC insertion baseline and radiologist-confirmed placement documentation.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate Degree in Nursing
• Current RN license
• PICC Certification
• Current BLS certification
• Must have good knowledge base for caring for central venous catheters.
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• 2 years of OR, IR, or PICC insertion experience

Responsibilities

• The PICC Line Nurse will assess and perform an overall evaluation of the patient.
• Responsible for placement of the line and ensure the line placement is correctly inserted.
• Ability to work independently.
• Communicates effectively and appropriately to patient, family and other health care providers.
• Completes required paperwork.
• Provides patient education about the PICC insertion and care and maintenance issues post insertion
• Participates in performance improvement activities by providing information about each PICC insertion to the facility staff as requested
• Demonstrates ability to assess patient history and pertinent medical data for PICC candidacy
• Assures physicians order on chart for PICC placement and informed consent
• Performs time out; correct patient identifier prior to initiating PICC procedure
• Maintains aseptic technique and minimizes patient discomfort
• Maintains clinical competency and documents PICC placements and radiologist confirmation
• Provides staff instructions about PICC care and maintenance
• Assist Territory Managers in clinical meetings and facility rounds
• Responsible for fiscal viability of the PICC program through charges and equipment usage
• Maintains patient confidentiality
