Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a physician to join Eastern Pulmonary, blending critical care intensivist coverage with an outpatient pulmonology clinic. The role includes rotating group call and a Monday–Friday outpatient schedule at UAB St. Vincent's East in Trussville.

Qualified candidates are MD/DO licensed in Alabama, with ALS preferred. This position is part of Alabama's largest health system known for patient care, research, and education.

Qualifications

• Licensed MD or DO credentialed by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners.
• Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and treats patients with appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills.
• Recommends and participates in cost effectiveness and quality improvement efforts.
• Accepts referrals and acts as admitting/attending/consulting physician when hospitalization is needed.
• Participates in academic programs such as medical education and research as requested.
• Ensures documentation meets insurance requirements and appeals denials promptly.
• Participates in inpatient and outpatient specialty consultations and on-call schedules.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and treats patients with appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills.
• Recommends, participates in, and works to ensure the success of efforts to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care provided to patients.
• Accepts patient referrals from other physicians. Acts as admitting, attending and/or consulting physician for patients who require hospitalization for primary medical diagnoses, depending on needs of patients, medical staff and hospital.
• Participates in academic programs (e.g. medical education and research) as requested.
• Provides appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.
• Participates in inpatient and outpatient consultation for specialty, which may include on call schedules.

Qualifications

• Licensed Graduate Doctoral Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.

Education

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required.
