Job summary

UAB Medicine seeks a Pulmonary and Critical Care physician for a blend of inpatient and outpatient clinic duties at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham Pulmonary Group. Responsibilities include ICU care, COPD, asthma, ARDS, pulmonary hypertension, and multidisciplinary rounds.

Board-certified/board-eligible candidates with fellowship training are preferred; licensure in Alabama is required. Join a large academic health system with extensive resources and a mission-driven team.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Doctoral Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and treats patients with appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills.
  • Recommends, participates in, and works to ensure the success of efforts to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care provided to patients.
  • Accepts patient referrals from other physicians. Acts as admitting, attending and/or consulting physician for patients who require hospitalization for primary medical diagnoses, depending on needs of patients, medical staff and hospital.
  • Participates in academic programs (e.g. medical education and research) as requested.
  • Provides appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.
  • Participates in inpatient and outpatient consultation for specialty, which may include on call schedules.

Position Overview
  • Department: UAB St.Vincent's Birmingham Pulmonary Group
  • Schedule: Blend of Inpatient (ICU and hospital consult service) and outpatient clinic practice with rotating call coverage among physician group.
  • Work Location: UAB St. Vincent's Hospital, 800 Saint Vincent's Drive, Suite 600, Bham Al 35205
  • Licensure: Preferred completion of accredited Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship, Board certification in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Crare Medicine.
  • Job Duties: Include providing diagnosis, management, and treatment of patients with acute and chronic pulmonary diseases such as COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, and pulmonary hypertension. Manage critical care patients in the ICU, including those requiring mechanical ventilation and advanced life support measures. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and collaboration with medical staff to ensure coordinated care. Maintain all aspects of outpatient pulmonary clinic.

  • Licensed Graduate Doctoral Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.
Education
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required.
