Job summary

Independence Health System in North Huntington, PA, is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform specimen collection for inpatients and outpatients, enter orders, verify specimens, and ensure timely report processing in a busy laboratory.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, completion of Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant Training, knowledge of LIS and Microsoft Office, and strong attention to accuracy and patient safety; travel between system locations may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED or higher education.
• Completion of Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant Training Program or six (6) months experience performing phlebotomy.
• Knowledge of coding, basic math, and payer/insurance benefits is preferred.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and general office related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Accurately place orders and monitor LIS reports to track specimens and results.
• Perform venous or capillary phlebotomy following standard precautions.
• Verify patient identity using two identifiers prior to collection.
• Follow department protocols for blood collection and post-venipuncture care.
• Respond to pages promptly and prioritize tasks.
• Maintain compliance with redraw policies and low contamination rates.
