Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking aPhlebotomist to collect blood samples by venipuncture and capillary methods, perform EKGs and point-of-care testing for inpatients and outpatients. The role involves accurate specimen labeling, data entry, and coordination with the lab team.

Flex position with potential travel to other campuses; requires BLS within 3 months and ongoing competency maintenance. Competitive pay and benefits provided by UMass Memorial Health.

Qualifications

• High school graduate with phlebotomy training.
• BLS certification required within 3 months of employment and annual competencies.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary phlebotomy with proper equipment and techniques.
• Reviews physician requisitions to ensure tests meet Medical Necessity.
• Prepares ABN for tests not meeting guidelines and obtains signatures.
• Performs EKG, pulse oximetry and point-of-care testing as requested.
• Processes specimens including centrifugation, labeling and packaging.
• Maintains accurate records and monitors refrigeration temperatures.
