Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to join our team in the United States. This role collects blood specimens, performs EKG and pulse oximetry tests, and ensures compliance with medical necessity guidelines.

You will handle ABN paperwork and participate in quality control of testing equipment. Responsibilities include processing specimens, preparing registrations, and supporting outreach testing as needed.

Qualifications

• High School graduate with recognized phlebotomy training or documented phlebotomy experience.
• BLS certification required within 3 months of employment; annual competencies maintained.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens by venipuncture and capillary methods.
• Perform EKG, pulse oximetry and point-of-care testing for inpatients and outpatients.
• Perform phlebotomy procedures using appropriate collection equipment.
• Review physician orders to ensure tests meet Medical Necessity guidelines.
• Prepare ABN forms for tests not meeting guidelines and obtain signatures.
• Maintain instrumentation and perform quality control for EKG and POC testing.
• Process specimens: centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling and packaging.
• Provide essential patient data and insurance information for specimen registration.
