Job summary

Blanchard Valley Health System is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform daily blood collection and related duties in a fast-paced clinical environment. You will verify patient identity, label specimens accurately, and assist with point-of-care testing as trained, ensuring specimen integrity and timely processing.

The role requires strong communication, organization, and teamwork, with a focus on patient confidentiality and service excellence.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Knowledge of clinical or anatomical laboratory functions, medical terminology or science background.
• Ability to provide own transportation while on duty.
• Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
• Knowledge of growth and development across the life span and age-specific care requirements.

Responsibilities

• Performs day-to-day phlebotomy duties per standards and director guidance.
• Obtain specimens, verify patient identity, label specimens, and perform EKGs where trained.
• Use good judgment with difficult patients and document deviations from procedures.
• Prioritize collection and delivery of routine, timed, stat, and urgent orders to the lab.
• Maintain phlebotomy supplies and ensure clean, organized work area.
• Monitor and use computer systems for batches, requisitions, and labeling; support POC testing as needed.
• Maintain professionalism and patient confidentiality; provide excellent service.
• Communicate with patients and staff per BVHS scripting and service standards.
• Perform quality control and instrument sterilization in line with protocols.
• Take on additional duties as assigned by leadership; attend to attendance and punctuality.
