Job summary

Blanchard Valley Health System is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform day-to-day phlebotomy duties in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines and under the direction of the Laboratory Director.

The role involves collecting specimens, ensuring proper patient identification, and maintaining accurate labeling and documentation. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong organization, communication, and a commitment to patient care within a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to provide own transportation.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for patient-facing role.
• Organized, able to prioritize, and work well in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to communicate effectively in written and oral form and work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Is well organized and uses a systematic approach while receiving patients.
• Obtains proper specimens, verifies identity, labels specimens, and performs EKGs when trained.
• Uses good judgment with difficult patients and documents deviations in the system.
• Prioritizes collection and delivery of routine and urgent orders to the lab.
• Maintains phlebotomy supplies and ensures a neat work environment.
• Monitors the computer system for batch collection, requisitions, and labels.
• Maintains professionalism and patient confidentiality as a lab representative.
• Interacts with patients, physicians, and staff following BVHA service standards.
• Delivers age-appropriate care and adheres to safety policies and procedures.
• Punctuality and adherence to attendance policies.
