Job Description: The Phlebotomist III - Float represents the face of our company to patients who come to Quest Diagnostics, whether as part of their routine health checks or for critical health insights. The Phlebotomist III - Float draws quality blood samples from patients and prepares these specimens for lab testing, adhering to established practices and procedures. This role involves direct patient contact, requiring the creation of an atmosphere of trust and confidence, and involves explaining procedures and drawing blood in a skillful, safe, and accurate manner.
The Phlebotomist III - Float provides coverage at multiple locations and roles, ensuring that daily activities across Patient Service Centers, Mobile units, Long Term Care, and In-Office Phlebotomy are completed accurately and timely. Demonstrating leadership behaviors, the Phlebotomist focuses on process excellence, confidentiality, and accuracy of patient information. The role may include working in a doctor's office, patient service center, house call environment, or long-term care, depending on business needs.
The incumbent must be capable of stepping in for other Phlebotomists and leading on-site staff, including coaching, mentoring, and onboarding new employees. They serve as a point of contact for staff and provide input to supervisors. The role may also focus on high-complexity and high-volume practices, requiring advanced phlebotomy skills, excellent customer-facing skills, and collaboration across multiple functions such as Sales, Laboratory Testing Services, IT, Billing, and Logistics.
The Phlebotomist III - Float must handle multiple priorities in a high-volume setting.
Required Education:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
3. Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
Work Experience:
1. At least five years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
2. Minimum of 3 years in a Patient Service Center or In-Office Phlebotomy environment preferred.
3. Customer service experience in a retail or service setting preferred.
4. Keyboard/data entry experience.
