Job summary

Advocate Health seeks a phlebotomy/clinical support professional to oversee staff, coordinate specimen collection, and ensure patient safety. The role includes mentoring, workflow management, and quality assurance in a fast-paced lab setting.

The incumbent will collect specimens, supervise processes, and may assist in limited testing under CLIA guidelines. Strong communication and flexibility for varied shifts are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Typically requires 3 years of experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a group of employees.
• Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a resource to employees and students, providing day-to-day work direction.
• Assist with interviews, staff development and policy interpretation.
• Coordinate workflow within the department and monitor staff productivity.
• Investigate procedure and performance issues and support leadership in resolutions.
• Document information for quality assurance and improvement per protocol.
• Perform venipuncture and collect specimens from patients of various ages.
• Ensure proper labeling and handling of specimens for testing.
• May perform limited testing under CLIA guidelines and run QC checks.
• Instruct students in phlebotomy and data entry tasks.
• Demonstrate knowledge to provide age-appropriate patient care.
