Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a phlebotomy specialist to join our laboratory team. You will verify patient identity, perform venipuncture, collect and label specimens, and ensure samples are suitable for testing.

You will also assist with inventory, billing, and data entry while providing training to staff and students. The role requires basic computer skills, strong communication, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates knowledge and experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory functions.
• Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.
• Keyboarding and typing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; good listening abilities.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and handle multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Verifies patient identification and collects specimens from newborn to adult patients.
• Performs venipuncture and supports specimen labeling and transport.
• Ensures specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing.
• Performs limited testing under CLIA guidelines per policy.
• Answers calls, assists with inventory, and supports billing and business functions.
• Trains employees and students in phlebotomy and data entry.
• Provides care appropriate to patient age and needs per department standards.
