Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Lab Support Tech I to greet patients, perform phlebotomy procedures, and support lab operations. The role includes specimen collection, processing, test ordering, and phone support in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Responsibilities span specimen receiving, registration, and maintaining a clean work area. Applicants should have a high school diploma, driver’s license, phlebotomy experience, and proficiency with hospital information systems.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Phlebotomy training preferred.
• ASCP certification or eligibility preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Computer and keyboard proficiency required.
• Fluent English communication required.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples using venipuncture techniques across age groups.
• Receive specimens in the computer system and label/prioritize appropriately.
• Maintain clean and organized drawing station and restock supplies.
• Register courier-delivered specimens efficiently and troubleshoot printers.
• Demonstrate mastery of hospital information systems and order tests accurately.
• Answer and transfer calls courteously; ensure coverage for incoming calls.
• Perform capillary collection and PKU collections.
• Adapt to workflow changes and provide feedback to supervisors.
• Restock supplies and report low inventory; maintain PPE compliance.
• Support ER with supplies and patient draws; monitor pager readiness.
• Apply age-specific competency in patient care.
