Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is hiring a Phlebotomist for ongoing specimen collection and processing across multiple locations. The role requires venipuncture skills, attention to patient age-specific needs, and proficiency with lab systems.

Responsibilities include specimen transport, registration, test ordering support, and maintaining a clean work area. A high school diploma, valid driver’s license, and phlebotomy training are preferred; ASCP certification is a plus.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Phlebotomy training preferred.
  • ASCP certification or eligibility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Specimen Collection: venipuncture across age groups.
  • Specimen Receiving and Distribution: label, prioritize, transport specimens.
  • Work Area Organization: keep station clean and stocked.
  • Specimen Registration: register courier-delivered specimens.
  • Computer and Test Ordering Support: operate hospital information systems and order tests.
  • Telephone Support: handle calls courteously and provide coverage.
  • Capillary Collection: perform heel sticks and PKU collections.
  • General Lab Duties: restock supplies and report inventory.
  • Emergency Room Support: PPE compliance and paging readiness.
  • Age-Specific Competency: communicate with patients of different ages.

Skills

Fluent English communication
Phlebotomy experience
Computer and keyboard proficiency

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid driver’s license
Phlebotomy training
ASCP certification or eligibility
