Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Lab Support Tech I to greet patients and perform phlebotomy, specimen collection, processing, and clerical duties in a hospital setting.

The role requires high school diploma or equivalent, possible phlebotomy training and ASCP certification; fluent English, valid driver’s license, and non-exempt status. Signing bonus may be available; good teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Valid driver's license.
• Phlebotomy training and ASCP certification or eligibility preferred.
• Fluent English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Specimen collection via venipuncture across age groups following protocols.
• Specimen receiving, labeling, prioritizing (STAT, STROKE, CSF) and transporting per protocol.
• Maintain clean, organized work area and restock supplies.
• Register courier-delivered specimens and troubleshoot printers.
• Order tests using hospital information systems and coordinate with departments.
• Answer and transfer calls and ensure coverage for incoming calls.
• Capillary collection (heel sticks) and PKU sampling.
• Provide coverage for home draws and drawing stations; support ER when needed.
• Adhere to PPE guidelines and report inventory levels; provide shift reports.
• Age-specific communication and competency with patients of different ages.
