Job summary

GBMC HealthCare’s Phlebotomy Lab Assistant will collect and accession specimens, entering accurate patient data and reports for timely laboratory processing.

Under supervision, you will perform phlebotomy on patients of all ages, document rounds, and assist in training co-workers and students while upholding safety and quality standards.

Requirements include a High School diploma and 6 months each of phlebotomy and accessioning experience, with strong communication and computer skills.

Qualifications

• High School education is required.
• 6 months phlebotomy experience and 6 months accessioning experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and phlebotomy techniques.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Proficiency with computers and typing; accurate data entry.

Responsibilities

• Extracts blood from patients and performs phlebotomy procedures.
• Document all phlebotomy rounds in patient records.
• Verify patient demographics and specimen labels with orders.
• Prepare and process specimens for testing (labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting).
• Maintain supplies and equipment; ensure safety and infection control measures.
• Assist in donor screening and documentation as applicable.
• Participate in continuing education and training programs.
