Job summary

GBMC HealthCare in Towson, MD seeks a Phlebotomy Lab Assistant to provide phlebotomy and accessioning services, collect specimens, and deliver accurate lab reports to customers. Under direct supervision, you will assist in training staff and students and ensure patient safety with proper identification and aseptic technique.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• 6 months of related phlebotomy experience.
• 6 months related laboratory accessioning experience.

Responsibilities

• Extracts blood from patients and performs phlebotomy procedures according to established aseptic venipuncture technique.
• Detailed documentation for all phlebotomy rounds.
• Detailed documentation of outpatients called back to include physicians' offices.
• Enters accurate and complete patient demographic information, laboratory test orders, and verifies collection/receipt of specimens.
• Prepares and processes specimens for testing: labeling, measuring, aliquoting, centrifuging, etc.
• Distributes and retrieves specimens from appropriate work areas.
• Performs Quality EKGs and completes all required demographic information.
• Screens and interviews autologous and therapeutic donors according to protocol.
• Donor room QC completed daily; universal precautions followed.
• Donor documentation completed accurately at time of donation.
• Maintains equipment and supplies; stocks and cleans work areas.
