Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (Required).
• 1 year related experience (Required).
• Associate’s degree or higher (Preferred).
• Certificate of completion from Lab Assistant, Medical Assistant or CNA accredited program (Preferred).
• ASCP or NCA Phlebotomy certificate (Preferred).

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy collections from inpatients and outpatients with proper ID and labeling.
• Processes samples promptly and distributes to testing locations.
• Suggests new procedures for Clinical Services or work teams.
• Keeps areas clean and stocked; assists with supply ordering.
• Registers patients and enters orders in the computer.
• Maintains competency in drug screen collections per Federal guidelines.
• Communicates with physicians and nursing staff to procure specimens and place correct orders.
• Distributes completed reports to appropriate locations.
• Calls abnormal results per policy or provider requests.
• Adapts care to patient age groups served.
• Investigates unusual test requests with appropriate labs.
• Arranges couriers for specimen pickup when needed.
• Documents problems and coordinates retraining for staff.
• Assists with problem resolution regarding specimens, paperwork, or test results.
• Answers phones, takes orders, transmits results.
