Job summary

GBMC HealthCare is seeking a Phlebotomy Lab Assistant to provide phlebotomy/accessioning services, collect and process specimens, and deliver reports to customers. The role involves training/coaching staff, maintaining accurate documentation, and adhering to safety protocols in a busy laboratory setting.

Responsibilities include performing phlebotomy on patients of all ages, documenting procedures, verifying orders in Meditech, and ensuring timely specimen handling.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• 6 months phlebotomy experience and 6 months accessioning experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of phlebotomy techniques and practices.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Extracts blood from patients and performs phlebotomy procedures per established aseptic venipuncture technique.
• Detailed documentation of phlebotomy rounds and outpatient callbacks.
• Enter accurate patient demographics, test orders, and verify specimen collection in Meditech.
• Prepare and process specimens (labeling, measuring, aliquoting, centrifuging) and distribute to appropriate areas.
• Maintain supplies, perform centrifuge maintenance, and ensure timely transport of specimens.
