Job summary

BMCHS is seeking a part-time Laboratory Technician Assistant (clinical lab assistant/phlebotomist) for 32 hours per week, with 2:30 pm–11:00 pm shifts, every other weekend and rotating holidays. The role focuses on training, workflow monitoring, and timely phlebotomy services.

The position requires a high school diploma, phlebotomy and lab experience, with phlebotomy training preferred and ASCP eligibility within a year.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy and lab experience required.
• Phlebotomy training program preferred.
• Ongoing development of skills through in-services and training.
• Mentor others and participate in staff meetings.
• Analytical and decision-making functions with minimal supervision.
• Awareness of hospital policies and safety procedures.
• ASCP certification preferred (eligible within a year).

Responsibilities

• Train LTAs and students; maintain competency checklists.
• Coordinate and monitor LTAs on assigned shifts.
• Distribute work and liaison between Lab and other departments.
• Direct specimens to appropriate departments; troubleshoot LIS-related issues.
• Process specimens including centrifugation and labeling.
• Maintain inventory and records; ensure supplies are available.
• Follow safety policies and wear PPE as required.
