The Phlebotomist performs blood draws on patients who need diagnostic testing . The Phlebotomist is supervised by and works with the RNs to achieve timely pre-procedure blood draws and testing. The Phlebotomist must have interpersonal skills to successfully interact with patients, families, team members, physicians and ancillary staff.
Job Summary and Qualifications
You will demonstrate knowledge of physiology and function of the venous system of the human body, and collection techniques used to draw blood from patients.
You will collect blood samples from patients per laboratory policy and procedure.
You will decide the best method for drawing blo od depending on the specific patient.
You will practice proper patient identification.
You will label blood vials according to established procedures including use of automated patient identification systems.
What qualifications you will need:
High School diploma or equivalent
Completion of a certified phlebotomy course (strongly preferred)
Demonstrated phlebotomy experience
Interpersonal skills to successfully interact with all co-workers, staff, patients, patient families and vendors
Good phlebotomy, computer, and communication skills
