Representsthe face of our company to patients who come to Quest Diagnostics, both as part of their health routine or for insights into life-defining health decisions. The PSR II - Float draws quality blood samples from patients and prepares those specimens for lab testing while following established practices and procedures. The PSR II - Float has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe, and accurate manner.
This role will direct daily activity at a Patient Service Center (PSC) or In-Office Phlebotomy (IOP) and could also lead one or more PSR on site.
The PSR II - Float will demonstrate Quest Leadership Behaviors while focusing on process excellence skills and sensitivity to confidentiality and accuracy to patient information. Successful applicants may be assigned to a doctor's office, a patient service center, in a house call environment, long-term care, or as business needs dictate.
Responsibilities
- Collect specimens according to established procedures, including drug screens, biometric screening, and insurance exams.
- Administer oral solutions according to established training.
- Research test/client information and verify all written and electronic orders using lab technology systems or directory of services.
- Complete all data entry requirements accurately, including patient registration, test order entry, and managing Standing Orders.
- Enter billing information and collect payments when required, safeguarding assets and credit card information.
- Process specimens: labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required.
- Perform clerical duties such as data entry, inventory management, and answering phones as needed.
- Follow departmental policies, protocols, and procedures, ensuring staff compliance.
- Verify patient demographic info and initials post-venipuncture to confirm proper labeling.
- Assist with compiling and submitting monthly statistics and data.
- Maintain phlebotomy logs and other records timely.
- Complete and stay current with training courses on phlebotomy techniques.
- Travel to Territory Manager meetings if held off-site or outside normal shifts.
- Participate in special projects and teams.
- Stay updated on company communications and disseminate technical information.
- Perform Point of Care (POC) testing where needed, following SOPs.
- Mentor and support new employees, facilitating their transition into the work environment.
- Assist with inventory counts and report shortages or issues.
- Help prepare work schedules.
- Communicate professionally with clients, resolve or refer issues, and document problems.
- Follow safety protocols, including wearing appropriate protective equipment.
- Assist in implementing SOPs for phlebotomy services.
- Ensure facilities are maintained and report repairs needed.
- Act as a coach, mentor, and resource for staff, providing feedback to supervisors.
Qualifications
Required Work Experience:
- At least three years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Keyboard/data entry experience.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record if applicable.
- Willingness to travel and work at multiple locations with minimal notice.
Preferred Work Experience:
- Minimum 2 years in a Patient Service Center environment preferred.
- Customer service experience in retail or service sectors preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Ability to lift objects weighing 1-15 pounds frequently, and up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods, perform repetitive tasks, and use fine motor skills.
- Travel required; extensive use of phone and PC.
- Physical activities include walking, balancing, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, and twisting.
Knowledge:
- Adherence to all Quest Diagnostics policies and procedures, including safety and dress code.

High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
License/Certifications
Phlebotomy certification (required in certain states, e.g., California, Nevada, Washington, Louisiana)
