Qualifications

• High School Graduate or equivalent.
• 1+ years of experience in specimen collection and processing or completion of a phlebotomy program.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record if travel between facilities.

Responsibilities

• Performs blood draws by venipuncture according to standard protocol.
• Performs specimen collection using appropriate techniques and provides instructions/materials.
• Provides immediate patient care if post-venipuncture reaction occurs.
• Assists nursing staff as needed.
• Performs data entry in HIS/LIS per policies.
• Ensures proper container type, centrifugation, and transport conditions.
• Releases orders on ambulatory patients with HIS orders.
• Receives samples in LIS, prints labels and affixes to specimens.
• Consults Phlebotomy Coordinator or Lab Leadership as needed.
• Performs specimen processing duties such as aliquoting urine and separating samples.
• Understands pre-analytical variables and addon testing suitability.
• Responds to telephone inquiries and provides customer service.
• Instructs/mentors students and staff as applicable.
• Maintains inventory of supplies.
