Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is hiring a part-time Phlebotomist to support patient blood collection in both ambulatory and inpatient settings. You will draw blood, prepare specimens, label tubes, and ensure proper patient identification.

You will also enter data in HIS/LIS systems and assist nursing staff as needed. Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, phlebotomy training or related experience, and fluent English.

Qualifications

• High school graduation is required.
• Phlebotomy training or practical experience in specimen collection is required.
• Fluent English is required for communication with patients and staff.
• Experience with HIS/LIS systems or data entry is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Performs blood draws by venipuncture according to standard protocol, ensuring patient safety and quality specimen collection.
• Performs specimen collection using appropriate techniques and adherence to requirements; provides instructions to patients and care providers.
• Provides immediate patient care if post-venipuncture reactions occur; escorts patient to draw room when needed.
• Performs data entry in applicable information systems in compliance with policies.
• Releases orders in ambulatory health system and receives specimens in LIS; labels specimens and scans outside orders.
• Troubleshoots difficult orders and assists with missing specimens; mentors staff as applicable.
• Maintains inventory of supplies; supports nursing staff as needed.
• May cover at alternate locations to meet staffing needs.
