Job summary

Mary Washington Healthcare is seeking a Phlebotomist/Laboratory Assistant to perform specimen collection, processing, and data entry, while supporting inventory and customer service to ensure smooth lab operations.

The role involves phlebotomy from patients of all ages, accurate labeling, test order entry, and coordination of specimens with the lab system. Training and supervision support are provided as needed.

Qualifications

• One year of phlebotomy experience or completion of an accredited training program.
• AHA CPR certification required.
• Basic computer skills; MS Office experience preferred.
• ASCP phlebotomy certification desired.
• Excellent interpersonal and telephone skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Enter and verify test requests accurately.
• Verify patient information accurately.
• Assist with specimen storage, retrieval and disposal per policy.
• Process specimens per test requirements; prepare slides; plating.
• Prepare samples for transport to reference lab; review pending logs.
• Provide telephone support for non-critical results; fax reports as needed.
• Assist with inventory management and restock supplies.
• Take daily temperatures and perform maintenance checks.
• Train new staff on lab duties.
• Assist with front desk duties and phlebotomy coordination.
• Label and collect specimens accurately.
• Enter test orders and patient data into the LIMS.
• Print daily workflow reports and communicate delays.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
