Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking a Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist to receive, process, and prepare patient specimens for analysis, with proper labeling and documentation.

You will assist medical technologists, perform data entry, answer phones, manage incoming and outgoing lab reports, and oversee supply inventory to ensure equipment is functioning properly; a strong eye for detail and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • WA State Department of Health Medical Assistant - Phlebotomy certification is required.
  • May require certification for Infectious Substance shipping per Dangerous Goods Regulations.
  • Excellent customer service and patient relations skills.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, venous systems, proper specimen collection techniques and blood tubes.
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines and basic medical and laboratory terminology.
  • General computer knowledge is needed.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, process, and prepare patient specimens for analysis with proper labeling and documentation.
  • Assist medical technologists and maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment.
  • Perform clerical duties such as data entry, answering phones, and managing lab reports.
  • Maintain supply inventory, order materials, and ensure equipment is functioning correctly.
