Job summary

Actalent is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to support laboratory operations in the Imperial Valley. This contract role involves floating to sites, with shifts from 6am to 6pm and responsibilities including venipuncture, specimen processing, labeling, and transport.

You will ensure specimen integrity while maintaining documentation and safety compliance. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of phlebotomy experience, a valid certification, and proficiency with straight and butterfly needles,

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and blood collection using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Collect, label, process, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens per protocols.
  • Verify patient information and orders before collection and processing.
  • Explain procedures to patients professionally and courteously.
  • Ensure specimens are accurately labeled and prepared for testing/transport.
  • Package and transport specimens per temperature/handling requirements.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and update as needed.
  • Troubleshoot collection/processing issues and suggest workflow improvements.
  • Record maintenance data and perform equipment cleaning/decontamination.

Phlebotomist

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to support laboratory operations through accurate specimen collection, processing, and patient care. This role is ideal for an experienced phlebotomist who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to quality, accuracy, and exceptional service. Will be floating to sites around the Imperial Valley. Shifts can vary in between the hours of 6am-6pm.

Responsibilities
  • Perform venipuncture and blood collection procedures using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Collect, label, process, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens according to established protocols.
  • Collect blood, urine, and other specimens while ensuring specimen integrity and accuracy.
  • Verify patient information, physician orders, and laboratory requisitions prior to collection and processing.
  • Explain specimen collection procedures to patients in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ensure all specimens are accurately labeled and prepared for testing and transportation.
  • Package and transport specimens according to temperature and handling requirements.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and update information as needed.
  • Troubleshoot specimen collection and processing issues and identify opportunities for workflow improvement.
  • Record maintenance data and perform equipment cleaning and decontamination procedures.
  • Respond to laboratory-related inquiries and provide information in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Follow all OSHA, DEP, and laboratory safety regulations.
  • Participate in required trainings and stay current on laboratory procedures and best practices.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid Phlebotomy Certification, where required by state regulations.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 5 years of phlebotomy experience.
  • Proficiency performing blood draws using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Strong knowledge of specimen processing, handling, storage, and transportation procedures.
  • Experience verifying test orders and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and patient safety.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and applicable regulatory standards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a high-volume laboratory, diagnostic center, or healthcare environment.
  • Experience training or mentoring team members.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to identify process improvements and contribute to operational efficiency.
  • Excellent customer service and patient communication skills.

This is a Contract position based out of Imperial, CA.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.70 - $28.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
