Job summary

Children’s Hospital Colorado is seeking a detail-oriented individual to join our Outpatient Laboratory team as a PRN staff member. The role involves collecting blood samples, ensuring proper patient identification, and maintaining specimen quality across multiple System of Care locations.

Rotating Saturdays/Sundays 8am-12pm is required, with regular travel to support various sites. Relevant phlebotomy or MA certification with EMT eligibility is preferred, and a strong commitment to patient care

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Phlebotomist, MA, or EMT certificate OR 6 months of related experience required.
• CO EMT or NREMT certification accepted where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples by venipuncture, fingerstick, or heel stick per age-specific guidelines.
• Verify patient identity and correct test orders in the registration system.
• Prepare specimens for analysis following laboratory procedures.
• Create hospital registration encounters.
• Respond promptly to patient and department needs, including pneumatic tubes and deliveries.
• Perform reagent handling, inventory, and routine maintenance.
• Collect non-blood specimens such as nasopharyngeal swabs and urine samples.
• May perform waived tests in accordance with guidelines.
