Description

Job Summary: Provide MLT/Phlebotomist services for the Claremore Indian Hospital.

Primary Duties:

• Identify patients for lab draws by name and date of birth, complying with Joint Commission requirements.
• Have at least 1 year of experience and be competent in performing phlebotomies for all age groups, including neonatal and geriatric patients.
• Complete all IHS mandatory trainings by set due dates.
• Maintain laboratory stock, keep the phlebotomy area clean and organized.
• Notify the laboratory oversight or designated representative at least 2 hours before the shift if unable to work.
• Use the Electronic Health Record to review laboratory draw orders after proper patient identification.
• Accession the patient test order in RPMS Lab Package.
• Obtain specimens, including venipuncture and capillary draws, selecting appropriate tubes.
• Label all samples in front of the patient, including patient name, DOB, collection date/time, and phlebotomist initials.
• Properly package samples in biohazard transport bags for courier pickup.
• Transport specimens to the laboratory, including cultures and urine samples.
• Keep the phlebotomy draw tray stocked with necessary items.
• Perform prescribed waived testing and report results in RPMS Lab Package.
• Troubleshoot unusual results, repeating tests as needed, and consult with Clinical Laboratory Scientist for resolution.
• Clerical Support: Provide clerical support, assist in accreditation, support department and facility activities, and participate in HIPAA functions and safety training.

Education/Certification: Background check required.
