Location: Washington, DC and surrounding areas (float role) | Schedule: Full-time, on-site, 7-7 M-F, an 8-hour day (weekends as needed for OT) | Compensation: Not specified

Overview

A healthcare services organization is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist for a contract to hire opportunity based in Washington, DC, with floating assignments to nearby Maryland locations including College Park and Silver Spring. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection and handling to support patient care and diagnostic testing.

What you'll do
  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
  • Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
  • Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
  • Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required
  • Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy
  • Package specimens for transport
  • Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attend annual department trainings
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
  • Work independently and comfortably perform hard sticks
  • Float to multiple sites in DC and Maryland (College Park, Silver Spring)
Required qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
