Job summary

Keystone Distinction Group in Washington, DC area seeks a Phlebotomist (float) to support multiple sites including MD/DC. Base at Varnum Street, travel to College Park, Silver Spring. This is a contract-to-hire float position with 7am-7pm schedule.

You will perform blood draws, label specimens, and ensure proper handling while working independently. Requires clean driving record and access to reliable transportation; mileage reimbursed.

Qualifications

  • Valid phlebotomy certification for the state where employed.
  • Minimum 5 years experience performing venipunctures in fast-paced lab or hospital.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  • Properly explains the venipuncture process clearly and courteously.
  • Demonstrate technique with straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand all physicians' orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct.
  • Package specimens for transport.
  • Store specimen samples according to required temperature, follow protocols to maintain integrity.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Job Type & Base

Float job. Home base is Varnum Street, Washington DC. Floating to Maryland and DC: College Park, Silver Spring.

Schedule

7‑7 M-F, only an 8‑hour day. Earliest site opens at 7 am, latest closes at 6 pm. Weekends as needed; available for overtime if wanted.

Summary

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making workflow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities
  • Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  • Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.
  • Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct.
  • Package specimens for transport.
  • Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocol to maintain integrity of the specimen. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states.
  • Minimum of 5 work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience.
