• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations; attend trainings.
• Answer calls and relay laboratory results when needed.
• Update patient information and maintain accurate records.

Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist for a contract position based in Silver Spring, MD. This role supports laboratory operations by performing specimen collection, processing, and quality assurance tasks critical to patient care and diagnostic accuracy. The assignment is projected to run for 3 months with potential for extension.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, and operate centrifuges as required
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required
• Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy
• Package specimens for transport, maintaining proper temperature and labeling protocols
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and relay laboratory results as needed
• Update patient information and maintain accurate maintenance and decontamination records

Required qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
• Minimum of 5 work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Minimum 2 years of experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
