Software Placement Group, SPG, is seeking a Phlebotomist to support multiple sites in the Alexandria, VA area on a float basis. This contract role spans up to three months with potential for permanent placement, involving specimen collection and lab workflow support.

Responsibilities include venipuncture, labeling, processing specimens, and ensuring accuracy. Must have a phlebotomy certification, 6 months’ experience, and reliable transportation. Mileage reimbursement is provided.

Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
• Clean driving record
• Reliable transportation

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required
• Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously to patients
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy
• Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
• Update patient information and troubleshoot workflow issues
• Provide training and workflow recommendations as needed
• Travel to various locations in the Alexandria, VA area as part of a float assignment, working 8am-5pm M-F
