Job summary

Aspire Talent Solutions is seeking a Phlebotomist for Washington DC and surrounding areas on a contract-to-hire basis. The role involves blood draws, labeling specimens, specimen transport, and maintaining patient records, with flexibility to float to Maryland and DC.

Schedule: 7-7, M-F, earliest site opens at 7am; latest at 6pm. Weekends possible if OT is needed. Mileage expenses paid; driving record must be clean. Requires a reliable vehicle for travel and home base in DC.

Qualifications

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed.
  • Minimum of 5 work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information.
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explains the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
  • Demonstrate technique with straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Understand and follow physician orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
  • Package specimens for transport and store according to required temperatures.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer calls and relay laboratory results as needed.
  • Must be comfortable working alone and handling difficult sticks.

Location:

Washington DC and area (float job). Home base is Varnum Street, Washington DC. Floating to Maryland and DC. College Park, Silver Spring.

Schedule:

7-7 M-F, will only work an 8-hour day but our earliest site opens at 7am so they have to be available. Latest site closes at 6pm. Weekends as needed, can be available if OT is wanted.

Description:

Summary:

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  • Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required
  • Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
  • Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct.
  • Package specimens for transport
  • Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings
  • Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
  • must be comfortable doing hard sticks. Must be comfortable working alone.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states
  • Minimum of 5 work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital settingProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
