Job summary

CCBC seeks Part Time instructors to teach Philosophy courses such as Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics, Critical Thinking, and World Religions at multiple Maryland locations including Catonsville, Dundalk and Essex.

Adjunct Level 1 pays $1,085 per credit hour. Faculty may teach up to 22 credits per year, typically no more than 11 per semester. Candidates should hold a Master's in Philosophy or related field with suitable graduate credits.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Philosophy or related field with 18 graduate credits in Philosophy.
  • Two years of teaching experience.
  • Experience with diverse student populations.
  • Experience using classroom technology and learning management systems.
  • Proficient computer skills and Microsoft Office.
  • Prior college teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfills department and college responsibilities as directed by the program director and/or course coordinator.
  • Employs a variety of teaching strategies to meet a diverse student population.
  • Develops a course syllabus in keeping with program and College policies.
  • Ensures evaluation methods are administered and aligned with objectives.
  • Monitors student performance and provides timely feedback.

Class Description

Part Time instructor positions available in Philosophy, teachingone or more of the following courses: Introduction to Philosophy,Ethics, Critical Thinking, and Introduction to WorldReligions.

Adjunct Level 1 - $1,085 per credit hour.

Adjunct faculty may teach up to 22 credit hours each year andusually teach no more than 11 credits each semester.

Minimum Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Philosophy; or Master’s degree in relatedfield with 18 graduate credits in Philosophy
  • Two (2) years teaching experience
  • Experience working with non-traditional and diverse studentpopulations preferred
  • Experience using classroom technology and learning managementsystems preferred
  • Proficient computer skills and Microsoft applicationsknowledge
  • Prior college teaching experience preferred
Class Specific Essential Duties
  1. Fulfills department and college responsibilities as directed by the program director and/or course coordinator.
  2. Abides by College wide policies and procedures regarding classroom conduct.
  3. Employs a variety of teaching strategies to meet a diverse student population.
  4. Adheres to the scheduled time of class/lab.
  5. Develops a course syllabus that is in keeping with program and College policies.
  6. Ensures that program specific evaluation methods are administered and completed in a consistent and equitable manner.
  7. Assure that evaluation methods are appropriate and effectively assessing the established course objectives.
  8. Monitors student performance on a regular basis and provides feedback within a reasonable timeframe to students.

The Roth 403(b) savings feature allowsemployees to contribute after-tax dollars and then withdrawtax-free dollars from their account upon retirement. The Roth403(b) savings feature is only offered by the following vendors:TIAA-CREF and VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc. Adjunct Faculty, PartTime Associates and Full Time employees are eligible to save forretirement using the Roth 403(b) savings feature. Employees maycontribute traditional pre-tax 403(b) dollars and Roth 403(b)post-tax dollars simultaneously. The savings limits are combinedfor the Traditional 403(b) and the Roth 403(b) contributions.
  • Deferred Compensation Plan — 457(b) offered through VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc. The 457(b) salary reduction authorization form is needed. The form is available on SharePoint Forms/HumanResources Forms.
