Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Pharmacy Technician, Non-Certified, to support pharmacists in processing prescriptions, handling insurance billing, managing inventory, and delivering excellent customer service. You will work toward national technician certification while gaining hands-on experience in a busy retail pharmacy.

The role involves preparing prescriptions, verifying patient information, assisting with vaccines where allowed, and maintaining a compliant and courteous work environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrollment toward licensed pharmacy technician certification.
• Pharmacy clerk experience preferred.
• Vaccination certification if vaccines are administered by law.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and learning their names.
• Handle customer inquiries that do not require a pharmacist’s expertise and judgment.
• Accept new written prescription orders and telephoned refill requests under supervision.
• Contact doctors to obtain or request refills as needed.
• Gather and maintain accurate patient information for prescriptions.
• Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription drug products for dispensing.
• Prepare and affix labels, and process prescriptions for mailing.
• Submit insurance claims and assist with third‑party billing.
• File prescriptions after dispensing and report medication errors.
• Stock pharmacy supplies and log invoices; perform cash transactions accurately.
• Administer vaccines where allowed by law with required certification.
• Maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy and preserve patient privacy per HIPAA.
