Job summary

Penn Medicine is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to process prescriptions, adjudicate third-party insurance, and assist with medication orders on patient care units and decentralized clinics. You will help with prior authorizations, medication histories, and rounds coordination, ensuring timely delivery of medications to patients and families.

The role requires excellent communication, collaboration with pharmacists, and adherence to program guidelines for benefits and pre-certifications.

Qualifications

  • Pharmacy technician must be registered with PA State Board of Pharmacy and have a CPhT certification.
  • HS Diploma or GED required; and at least 3 years of certified pharmacy technician experience in retail/outpatient settings.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills essential for interacting with patients, families, and clinical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Determines patient insurance requirements for pre-certification, payments, and coverage before discharge.
  • Maintain communication with pharmacists, social workers, discharge teams, and specialty pharmacy programs to obtain complete financial information for adjudication.
  • Immediately flag coverage issues to the clinical practice to determine next steps.
  • Proactively share benefit investigation information with practices and patients.
  • Support all myPennPharmacy services as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather paperwork, prescriptions, and billing information.
  • Follow up with patients and practices to ensure ongoing medication access and eligibility.
  • Interact with medical staff to obtain timely clinical and financial information for payer reimbursement.
  • Educate patients and practices about insurance coverage as it relates to discharge medications.
