Job summary

Cleveland Clinic's inpatient pharmacy team at the Main Campus provides distributive and clinical services across a large hospital footprint, including 60 nursing units, 80 operating rooms, 4 PACUs and 10 Cath labs. As an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in moving medications throughout the facility to enhance patient care.

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• CPhT certification through PTCB or NHA at hire is required.
• Active OBOP registration as either CPhT, Registered, or Technician Trainee at hire; must update to CPhT within 6 months.
• Ability to perform algebraic calculations for extemporaneous compounding.

Responsibilities

• Prepare medications by selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile and sterile compounding.
• Deliver medications to storage locations accurately and timely.
• Maintain inventories and complete cycle counts and unit inspections.
• Document regulatory requirements and maintain a safe, clean work area, including temperature logs and training.
• Use information systems and automation to complete tasks.
• Assist with training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

Cleveland Clinic’s inpatient pharmacy areas support distributive and clinical pharmacy services provided by staff pharmacists, clinical pharmacy specialists and pharmacy technicians, supporting 60 nursing units, 80 operating rooms, 4 PACUs, and 10 Cath labs, accounting for over 1,440 inpatient beds. As an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital link in moving medications throughout the facility to enhance patient care. You will join a team that empowers every caregiver to make valuable contributions to patient-focused care, teaching and research activities. A caregiver in this position will work five 8-hour shifts per week with variable start times. Monday through Friday shifts may be scheduled from 7:00am to 3:30pm, 8:30am to 5:0pm or 10:30am to 7:00pm. Weekend shifts are scheduled from 7:00am to 3:30pm, with caregivers rotating every fourth weekend.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
• Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
• Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
• Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
• Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
• Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Upon hire, you must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).
• In addition to the above requirement, upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee
• Please note: Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months
• Understanding of algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Six months of hospital experience
• Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
• Experience with compounding or oncology

Physical Requirements:

• Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

• Minimum hourly: $21.50
• Maximum hourly: $31.00
