Job summary

The Cleveland Clinic Main Campus is seeking a Pharmacy Technician - Oncology, Part Time to support inpatient pharmacy services across 60 nursing units and 80 operating rooms. You will join a team dedicated to patient-centered care in a world-class hospital.

You will prepare medications (sterile and non-sterile), deliver to storage locations, assist with training, and help maintain accurate inventories while following all safety and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPhT certification through PTCB or NHA required.
• Active OBOP registration as CPhT, Registered Technician, or Technician Trainee required at hire.
• Must update OBOP registration to CPhT within 6 months if trainee or registered.
• Ability to perform algebraic calculations for extemporaneous compounds.

Responsibilities

• Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile and sterile compounding.
• Deliver medications to storage locations accurately and timely.
• Maintain inventories and complete cycle counts and unit inspections.
• Maintain a safe and clean work area and document regulatory requirements (temperature logs, trainings).
• Use information systems and automation to complete tasks.
• Assist with training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

Cleveland Clinic's inpatient pharmacy areas support distributive and clinical pharmacy services provided by staff pharmacists, clinical pharmacy specialists and pharmacy technicians, supporting 60 nursing units, 80 operating rooms, 4 PACUs, and 10 Cath labs, accounting for over 1,440 inpatient beds. As an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital link in moving medications throughout the facility to enhance patient care. A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
• Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
• Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
• Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
• Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
• Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Upon hire, you must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).
• In addition to the above requirement, upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee
• Please note: Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months
• Understanding of algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Six months of hospital experience
• Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
• Experience with compounding or oncology

Physical Requirements:

Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
