Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the PTCB or NHA.
  • Active OBOP registration as Certified/Registered Technician or Technician Trainee with update to certified within six months.
  • Apprenticeship program available; trainee status does not qualify for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide distributive pharmacy services and support for the pharmacist in ambulatory/outpatient setting.
  • Prepare prescription orders for dispensing to patients.
  • Maintain outpatient pharmacy inventory.
  • Assist with extemporaneous and bulk compounding of prescriptions and OTC items.
  • Operate the point-of-sale cash register system.
  • Monitor reorder points and restock prescription/non-prescription areas, remove expiring products.

The Pharmacy Technician – Community supports a high-volume outpatient pharmacy located on the second floor of the Crile Building, processing approximately 500–800 prescriptions each day. In this role, caregivers rotate through a variety of pharmacy workflows, including assisting patients at the register, preparing and filling prescriptions, managing inventory, and supporting daily pharmacy operations. Working closely with pharmacists and fellow technicians, this caregiver helps ensure accurate medication dispensing, efficient workflow, and exceptional customer service while contributing to a positive patient experience in a fast-paced community pharmacy setting.

A caregiver in this position will work a full-time schedule of either five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, between 7:30am and 6:15pm. Caregivers participate in a weekend rotation at the Euclid Avenue Pharmacy, averaging 7–8 weekend shifts per year, with incentive pay available for weekend coverage.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:
  • Provide distributive pharmacy services, assistance and support for the pharmacist in an ambulatory/outpatient setting.
  • Prepare prescription orders for dispensing to patients.
  • Maintain inventory for the outpatient pharmacy.
  • Assist with extemporaneous compounding of prescriptions and bulk compounding of prescriptions and over the counter items.
  • Operate the point-of-sale cash register system.
  • Monitor and act on reorder points, restock prescription and non-prescription area and remove expiring products.
  • Provide multi-pharmacy support in assigned areas as needed.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • High School Diploma/GED
Must meet all of the following license and certification combination requirements at the time of application:
  • Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR the National HealthCareer Association (NHA)
  • AND it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee. If certified but current status with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) is Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee it is required to update registration status to a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the OBOP within six months of hire.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
  • Six months of hospital experience
Physical Requirements:
  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, reaching, stretching, stooping, and sitting for prolonged times; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 20 lbs. while walking, stooping, bending and reaching.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $21.50

Maximum hourly: $31.00
