Job description

Position Summary

Working under the day-to-day supervision of pharmacists and Pharmacy Leadership, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for the proper handling of medications, including receiving, distribution, inventory management in Pyxis, storage, repackaging, compounding, filling orders, delivering, and stocking.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform hazardous compounding and batch sterility tests.
• Monitor at least one Key Performance Indicator or produce at least one Key Process Improvement.
• Assist in revising training materials.
• Perform purchasing tasks such as ordering/receiving, scanning deliveries, verifying scannability, and managing low stock notifications.
• Repackage medications from bulk to unit dose when necessary.
• Prepare clean-room and sterile product areas, perform dosing calculations, and follow aseptic technique.
• Check expiration dates, maintain inventory, credit/debit Meditech for reorders or returns, and resolve missing medication issues.
• Conduct monthly floor inspections to verify medication integrity, labeling, proper disposal, and return of expired meds.
• Fill medication orders: select drug, dosage form, strength, retrieve from ADC fill list, organize and check filled meds, refill trays and kits.
• Deliver medication to patient care areas, ADC, and medication rooms in a timely manner; update machines with current dates and return meds from floors.
• Load and unload Automated Dispensing Cabinets, ensure accurate filling, troubleshoot minor equipment issues, and reboot equipment as needed.
• Maintain excellent customer service communications; answer phones, triage pharmacist calls, and communicate with nursing and other staff.
• Maintain professionalism, adhere to HIPAA, support new staff training, and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Document logs daily: refrigerators, hood cleaning, eye wash, and report any omissions or errors.
• Handle controlled substances with accurate record‑keeping and promptly report discrepancies.

Education, Experience & Licensure

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of Pharmacy Technician training program.
• Experience: 1‑2 years in a hospital pharmacy setting (specific type and length may be required).
• Licensure: Maintain CPhT designation and state registration as required.
• Complete required educational modules, including Steward University and optional gloved finger‑tip and media fill tests.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation range: $25.92–$38.51 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
