Job summary

Ascension Saint Joseph in Chicago, IL is seeking a specialty pharmacy technician to join Pharmacy Services on rotating shifts (PRN). The role includes medication history, purchasing, inventory management, nuclear pharmacy support, and PAP coordination, with responsibilities for automated dispensing systems and specialty orders.

Qualified candidates will have a Pharmacy Tech credential from the Illinois DFPR; PTCB or NHA credentials are preferred.

Qualifications

• Pharmacy Tech credentialed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation required before hire
• PTCB credential preferred
• NHA credential preferred
• High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience required
• Licensure/certification can substitute education or experience

Responsibilities

• Medication history, purchasing, inventory management, and PAP coordination.
• Refill and maintain automated dispensing systems; prepare specialty orders and manage inventory.
• Repackage bulk medications and receive, inspect, and store supplies.
• Serve as liaison between the pharmacy, patients, and healthcare professionals with timely information.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Perform specialty pharmacy technician duties, including medication history, purchasing, inventory management, nuclear pharmacy support, and Patient Assistance Program (PAP) coordination.
• Refill and maintain automated dispensing systems; prepare specialty pharmacy orders and manage related inventory.
• Repackage bulk medications and receive, inspect, and store incoming pharmaceutical supplies.

Serve as a liaison between the pharmacy, patients, and healthcare professionals by providing accurate and timely information.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

• Pharmacy Tech credentialed from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Pharmacy Tech credentialed from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred
• Pharmacy Tech credentialed from the National Healthcareer Association preferred

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
• Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable
